I was just reading through the boards and stuff about the zone bbs icon thing in 2006. It looked really interesting. Why aren't they doing it again? I heard there were a lot of problems and everything. lol. I don't know, i would like to see it happen, just to see what it's like. sounds like grate entertainment too.

it was great, and it would be amazing if they could do it again. I just heard there were some confidentiality issues, judges giving out results before they were aired. I don't know what's true and what's not, I wasn't involved with the show but there would have to be a serious effort put into another zone icon.

It was an absolute mess, but there were those individuals who put an amazing amount of effert in to this particular project.

The organizers did an amazing job, and there are some very talented singers on the zone, but I don't expect another zone icon. I think it turned out to be more work than had been expected and had more problems than they could possibly foresee. Let's just say job well done and not apply pressure for another one.

everyone who worked on it did a fine job, and we got to hear a lot of tallent! But as usual everyone bitched about this and that. and I don't blaim them for not wanting to do it again!

I agree with minh, they should do something like that again sometime.

Goodness, there's a thought now. Another Zone Icon. Both myself and Kai, better known to some as Wraith on here, were responsible for the audio work in 06 and I can tell you without any reservation, we absolutely would not go near another project like that again. Of course I shouldn't really speak for Kai however, I don't think he'd dispute that last statement. I'm truly not exaggerating when I say that we put 4, maybe 5 days a week of our lives for more than 2 months into the audio work for the show, and yet by the end it had pretty much turned into a complete bitch fest. Now there's a shocker for the zone! *Grin*

I'm not saying the above you understand because I wish for any sympathy, but just to make the point that there is very little incentive for anybody to attempt anything of this nature again. By the time Zone icon was over all of the organizers stated in pretty unequivocal terms that never again would they try something like that and perhaps more tellingly, when ever the subject has been brought up since attitudes haven't changed in the slightest. Time apparently isn't always such a great healer.

I think the trouble with a project like that in a closed environment such as the Zone is that secrecy is nearly impossible to keep, yet without it, the whole integrity of the show is brought into question. Out there in the big wide World with the types of shows that we were attempting to emulate, American Idol, X-Factor etc, control of situations is a lot easier to maintain. Contestants, say a word to anybody and you can kiss goodbye to a million dollar recording contract! Judges, leak information about shows and you can kiss goodbye to a lucrative TV career, not to mention being dragged through the press for it. Here on the Zone where the steaks aren't nearly so high and where everybody knows everybody, you just don't have, indeed can't ever have the same kind of control.

Honestly I can't ever see it happening again. Quite a few of the staff members that were around for ZI 2006 are still around and I'm fairly certain that they don't have the stomach for it. I can 100% assure you that they'd need to find a new audio team! That's not to say it won't happen of course, anything is possible after all, but I would be surprised if it did.

Dan.

I was one of the contestans on zone icon and i found it to be a very good experience.
I agree with Dan the audio team put a lot of work in to the show and the result was very good. It sounded very professional and we had some very creative work from our production team.
I am lucky to have most of the icon shows because i was recording it and i can get back to it and remember what happened. I wish i had the two final shows but i was in Cyprus then and i was on dial up and i couldn't record it. If anyone has got them and could send them to me that would be nice.

I'd have to agree with Dan on all fronts. An incredible amount of time was put forth by the organizers of icon, with little to no thanks from zone members. There seemed to be a lot of bitching and moaning about what seemed nothing at all. I.e Arrons post. enough said

Oh wow, Zone Icon. Ha. It started out so great, but I didn't even listen to it after a while. Sorry Dan and Kai! :P Seriously, it was a really interesting idea and we got to hear some amazing singing (Jared for the win, ahaha), but I definitely don't blame the staff for their attitudes towards doing it again. I wouldn't if I were them. Just by reading the boards you can tell what a ridiculous mess it became, and mostly because of silly things that were blown so incredibly far out of proportion. They did such a great job and tried really hard to keep everyone happy and make it fun, but they hardly got any thanks for their work. I'd be amazed if it happened again, and while I'd probably listen and stuff, I kind of feel like it would be set up to fail from the beginning. A lot of people feel pretty negatively about it. Then again, we do have a lot of new members now ...

I believe it ended with the usual pissing and moaning...but, it was a great project.

A great project it was, and it had a lot of fire and spark that I still look on it fondly. I think it can be done again, I really do, if, and only if, they follow the "Keep it simple, stupid" line, I.E. Having only one person access to the results, and they reveal it live when the time comes. This may sound rich coming from me, but I really do feel it's possible if it's a community effort, instead of an effort created for the community.

lol, oh wow, sounds like it was grate to me. but yeah, the zone is a place where people bitch and moan ... so yeah, lol. i was just wondering

Yes, it was certainly very well done; sounded extremely professional!
I certainly also think Kai and dan should have got more credit for the amount of hours they put in!

As well done as that was, I say let it rest in peace.

Yes, let it be. It's unfortunate, but it seems that it will only garner the same sad but true results.
